PREMIERE: Infection in Our Healthcare System, August 27th

This Friday August 27, Media Mobilizing Project is premiering "Infection in Our Health Care System" as part of our launch of MMP TV. The event is taking place at Freedom Theatre in North Philadelphia.  The hour-length investigative report focuses on the experiences of poor and working people within a health care system that places profit over people. Spanning from Pottstown to northeast Philadelphia, the report tells the story of workers struggling for dignity and communities fighting for survival in the face of corporate and university greed. The launch of MMP TV also marks an important moment for Philadelphia's media landscape. At a time when the freedom of the Internet is in jeopardy and our mass media is increasingly consolidated offering the perspectives of the wealthy and well-connected, MMP TV is  made by, for and from the perspective of the majority poor and working class communities of Philadelphia and beyond. It tells the stories that FOX News and the Philadelphia Inquirer will not tell, giving voice to those that have long been silenced. Come celebrate the launch of Media Mobilizing Project Television:

When: Friday, August 27th, 6:30 p.m

Where: Freedom Theatre, 1346 North Broad St (At Broad St and Master St)

The Blue Collar Life

Reposted from Firedoglake

This morning my husband got up at 5:00 a.m. to work outside in 7 degree F temperatures. He sat on the end of the couch, head in his hands sipping his coffee telling me how much he hates his job. How much it’s wearing him out. He makes $29.00 dollars an hour. Roughly $60,000 a year. He’s a union electrician. His health care premiums come out of his pay check; it is NOT subsidized by his “company.” His disability comes out of his pay check. It is NOT subsidized by his company.

The Battle in Vermont: Support our Allies in the Fight to Make Health Care a Human Right

Over the last year Media Mobilizing Project has developed a strong relationship with the Vermont Workers' Center. The Vermont Workers’ Center has fought a pioneering grassroots human right to health care campaign, which has brought Vermont close to adopting a new health care system that works for everyone. Yet at this crucial point, as the opposition is about to pour millions into the state, the Workers’ Center finds itself short on resources, having put everything into the two-year struggle that built the movement.

Interview with Tent City resident James Luddy.

When officials closed down Camden's Tent City this past May, they promised the 54 homeless residents that it was not an eviction, but the first step to a better life. Now, less than 6 months later, many of them are once again homeless and some have created a new Tent city encampment near the original site.

Philadelphia’s two major newspapers have been acquired by outside investors.  Comcast cable dominates the market, but thousands of our neighbors can’t afford to get online.  In an era of dwindling outlets telling the stories of everyday Philadelphians, the Media Mobilizing Project has launched MMPtv, a monthly half-hour newsmagazine knitting together the stories of people across our region.  The show premiered on PhillyCam, Philadelphia’s new public access television station.
