Report on Detention of Ly Hov Khol

On August 12th, Philadelphians gathered to protest the detention and deportation of Ly Hov Khol, a refugee of the Khmer Rouge Regime and an active member of Philadelphia's Cambodian-American community. Ly was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and is now being held at a detention center out of state, awaiting his impending deportation to Cambodia. The voices of day laborers in Philly

Labor Justice Radio brings you a translated version of a piece by Radio Tlacuache. On April 27, Radio Tlacuache members visited the Home Depot in Northeast Philadelphia to interview day laborers. This Home Depot is a place where day laborers gather to look for work. On that day, there were almost 50 people hoping to be hired for work. These workers spoke about what a typical day is like for them, and shared their thoughts about the draconian immigration law that was recently passed in Arizona.

On July 7, 2009, Roxroy Salmon- a Jamaican immigrant, activist and Brooklyn, New York resident- appeared before an immigration judge to determine his future in this country. In a worst case scenario, Salmon, a longtime resident of the U.S. with deep roots here, was ordered deported.

Sentence in Shenandoah Case Outrages Latino Leaders

Latino leaders decried on Wedeneday the sentences of the two teens acquitted in the beating death of Luis Eduardo Ramírez, for related charges to the July 2008 fatal incident in Shenandoah, Pa. 

"There was no Justice done for Luis Ramirez, and we should not and will not rest until all four perpetrators of such a hideous crime are duly prosecuted under federal hate crime statues and found guilty of murder," said Reverend Miguel Rivera, chairman for the National Coalition Of Latino Clergy and Christian Leaders (CONLAMIC).
